Eliza High brings a highly effective blend of rugged prehospital rescue and fast-paced clinical experience to the classroom. For eight years, they served as a staffed volunteer Firefighter/EMT in eastern Whatcom County. Operating out of the Glacier area, their prehospital background heavily involved providing critical mutual aid for complex backcountry rescues and remote medical emergencies deep within the North Cascades. Building on this austere wilderness foundation, Eliza expanded their clinical expertise by working as an Emergency Department Technician for two years while completing nursing school. For students, this unique combination of high-alpine remote rescue and high-volume ED trauma care means learning from an instructor who deeply understands the entire continuum of patient care—from the side of a mountain all the way to the hospital doors.

The Journey to Remote Medicine
"When you spend a lot of time in wilderness environments, you become familiar with wilderness emergencies, whether you like it or not. I lost several close friends in skiing-related accidents in my adolescence and decided to take an REMT course in 2017 so I could be better prepared to help." Afterward, I began volunteering in my community and progressed into leadership and educator roles over the years before deciding to advance my career and attend nursing school.
I live in a tiny house that I built from scratch! When I'm not working I enjoy skiing, mountain biking, and rock climbing.
Teaching Philosopy
My teaching and coaching philosophies stress the importance of individual well-being, confidence, respect, and accountability while caring for others as part of a team. I believe my students are intelligent, kind, capable, and will never stop working toward achieving their full potential.
