REMT Program Manager

Willy's career exemplifies global remote medicine mastery. With over 15 years as both a USAF Pararescueman and Humanitarian Public Health professional, he has delivered patient care in over 50 countries. His fieldwork spans high-altitude Denali rescues, Antarctic glacier operations, and Hurricane Harvey disaster response. Holding EMT-Paramedic certification and a Master of Public Health in Humanitarian Response, his commitment to crisis communities makes him an exceptional mentor.

Libby Feldhaus

WFA & WFR Program Manager

A cardiac RN who guides sea-kayaking expeditions in remote Southeast Alaska, Libby expertly blends clinical knowledge with wilderness experience. Her journey began as a volunteer ski patroller at Mt. Baker, sparking a passion that led her to nursing. She draws on her diverse background—from hospital shifts to guiding wilderness adventures—to create engaging and highly relevant learning experiences that prepare students for real-world challenges.

Joe Bertels

Paramedic

With over 30 years on the frontlines as a paramedic, Joe is driven by a passion to innovate and improve emergency care. His primary interest is in boosting cardiac arrest survival, leading him to develop high-performance "pit crew" CPR programs. For Joe, teaching is about more than protocols; it's about sharing decades of hard-won lessons and mentoring new providers to think critically and act decisively when lives are on the line.

Since 2015, he's built his EMS career from EMT to firefighter/paramedic, gaining frontline experience on ambulances and fire departments. Now a full-time firefighter/paramedic and EMS instructor for five years, he's passionate about wilderness medicine education. His love for the outdoors—trail running, cycling, climbing, and photography—naturally connects with preparing students for remote medical challenges.

Harrison Brickman

Harrison is a consummate mountain professional: a certified Canadian Ski Guide, NREMT, and Vice President of Bellingham Mountain Rescue. He bridges technical rescue and wilderness medicine with a deep commitment to stewardship. With dual avalanche professional certifications, he brings a grounded, safety-focused, and deeply knowledgeable presence to every course.

Sam Castillo

Special Forces Medical Sergeant, Tactical Paramedic

After a distinguished 20-year career in the U.S. Army, including a decade as a Special Forces Medical Sergeant (18D), Sam brings an extraordinary level of field-tested expertise. He has provided care in nearly every conceivable setting, from combat zones to austere field conditions. Now a Nationally Registered Paramedic, he translates his elite military training into clear, practical instruction. He loves playing guitar and enjoying a slower pace of life with his wife and four kids.

Mary Ennes Davis

R-EMT, Avalanche and Mountain Rescue Instructor

Mary combines nearly 20 years of outdoor emergency care with over 35 years as a professional teacher, creating a powerful learning environment. As a team leader and instructor for the Mount Baker Ski Patrol, she is an expert in mountain rescue, avalanche response, and trauma care. When not teaching, running her art installation business, or providing CPR training with her husband, she loves climbing, rowing, and exploring with her dog.

Sahale DelCampo

After years on trail crews and as a wildland firefighter EMT, Sahale found her calling in medicine. Her experience in remote, dangerous settings inspired her to become an ER Tech. With a Biology degree, she now empowers her students to confidently handle backcountry emergencies, from patient assessment to evacuations. When not teaching, she loves backpacking to alpine lakes, skiing, and spending time with her husband and cats.

Peter Ellis

Peter's journey into medicine began at 17 on ski patrol and has been intertwined with the mountains ever since. His 15-year career with the National Park Service, culminating as the lead climbing ranger at Mt. Rainier, ignited his passion for teaching remote medical skills. Now a firefighter and paramedic with the City of Bellingham, he feels fortunate to serve the community where he and his wife are raising their young son.

A professional Alpine Guide and EMT based in Leavenworth, Marina lives and breathes mountain medicine. A graduate of the University of Washington with a focus on Global Health, she combines her academic background with practical experience as a Firefighter EMT. With specialties in backcountry trauma and technical rope rescue, and aspirations to become a flight nurse, she brings a sharp, focused, and modern perspective to wilderness medicine instruction.

As an Air National Guard Pararescueman (PJ), Connor's expertise in search and rescue is forged in real-world missions, from open-ocean rescues to disaster relief. This experience shapes his realistic, adaptable teaching style for practicing medicine when resources are limited. A filmmaker drawn to the human side of adventure, he believes medicine is a lifelong journey and loves sharing his knowledge. When not on a mission, he's exploring the PNW with his wife and dog, surfing, or learning to kiteboard.

For 17 years, Chris has served as a firefighter and EMT on Lummi Island, giving him a unique, daily understanding of providing care in remote settings with limited resources. An avid scuba diver and 4x4 driver, he relates his personal adventures to the challenges his students will face. As an instructor for the AHA and Red Cross, Chris is committed to building confidence, ensuring every student leaves with the skills and mindset to succeed.

From the ER and ICU to remote mountain peaks, Jonah’s career is a testament to his expertise in high-stakes medicine. As a Senior Instructor, he draws from a diverse background as an ER/ICU nurse, Mountain Rescue Technician, and guide. His profound self-reliance, demonstrated by solo sailing around the world and thru-hiking the Appalachian Trail, informs his teaching style, empowering students to operate independently and effectively.

Brian Martens

Brian’s path to medicine was shaped by a decade leading remote mountaineering expeditions in the Andes, Patagonia, and Alaska. A series of backcountry emergencies inspired him to become a Registered Nurse, where he now works full-time in a busy Emergency Department. This unique dual-perspective allows him to expertly bridge the gap between wilderness improvisation and hospital-level care for his students.

Steve served 20 years in the Army as a medic and aeromedical PA, deploying to Iraq, Afghanistan, and the Pacific in challenging environments. Now working in orthopedics, he's passionate about helping others succeed in resource-limited settings. Married 20 years with three kids, Steve enjoys family travel, camping, fishing, and coaching little league.

An EMT with eight years of experience, Mary thrives on the unique challenges of rural EMS. Originally from central Illinois, she discovered her love for the outdoors after moving to Washington, quickly learning the difference between a mountain and a foothill. Her favorite classroom is the great outdoors, and she believes adventure is always part of the lesson.

A full-time Ski Patroller at Stevens Pass, Steph's passion for remote medicine was born while working for Outward Bound in the North Cascades. She recognized the responsibility to have a higher level of training to respond to emergencies in the backcountry. She specializes in trauma and avalanche rescue and enjoys running her tea business in her free time.

Savannah Reed

Savannah’s passion for remote medicine ignited in 2006 on her local search and rescue team. As an REMT, she works on an ambulance on the Olympic Peninsula, where transport times often exceed an hour, giving her an intimate understanding of prolonged patient care. When not immersed in medicine, she loves swing dancing, baking, gardening, and diving into new craft projects.

A trained educator with a Master's in Education, Mari’s path to medicine was paved by adventures with backcountry forest service crews from the North Cascades to Central America. Now an EMT, K-12 teacher, and SAR volunteer, she uses her professional teaching skills to expertly guide students on their own journeys to becoming skilled and confident wilderness medical providers.

A professional photographer for 15 years, he has a keen eye for detail and a love for teaching that began at Bellingham Technical College’s EMT program. He cherishes family camping adventures and is excited to share his professional knowledge with the RMT community on his days off.

A retired 20-year U.S. Army Special Forces medic (18D), DJ’s career included assignments with the Australian SAS and as a flight medic team leader. Now an Emergency Medicine PA and UW instructor, he spends his free time on baseball and softball fields with his teenage twins. He is passionate about helping others develop the skills to handle emergencies with confidence.
