A recognized leader in Washington’s search and rescue community, Thomas Meade has spent the past decade responding to complex emergencies with King County Search and Rescue, Mt. Rainier National Park, and Bellingham Mountain Rescue. When he is not serving as a seasonal ski patroller at Mt. Baker or directing high-stakes rescue operations throughout Whatcom County, he shares his extensive field experience as an instructor. Thomas is deeply dedicated to educating professional rescuers and students alike, teaching the critical intricacies of incident leadership, wilderness medicine, and technical mountain rescue. He brings a wealth of real-world, austere-environment expertise to the classroom, ensuring his students are well-prepared for dynamic emergency scenarios.
The Journey to Remote Medicine
When I started with search and rescue, I was initially drawn to other complex disciplines like avalanche rescue, rope rescue, search theory, and incident management. It wasn't until later on that I realized the importance of good medical care and how it affects every other element of rescue.
