RMUR Curriculum & Logistics

The RMUR™ curriculum is meticulously structured to refresh core EMT competencies while seamlessly integrating the REMT™ scope of practice, which meets and exceeds the standard Wilderness EMT curriculum.

Core EMT Refresher Topics Include:

  • Patient assessment
  • Advanced airway management
  • Oxygen administration
  • Management of shock, thoracic trauma, head injuries, and musculoskeletal injuries.
  • Protocols for respiratory and cardiac emergencies, anaphylaxis, and mass-casualty incidents.

Integration of Remote Medicine & Prolonged Field Care Skills:

This is what elevates the RMUR™ beyond a standard refresher. Students will master skills essential for when evacuation is delayed:

Advanced Wound Closure: Hands-on practice with suturing techniques.

Intravenous (IV) Administration & Antibiotic Therapy: Establishing IV access and understanding principles of medication administration in the field.

Catheterization & Tube Placement: Foley catheterization for long-term patient management.

Sick Call & Primary Care: Skills for managing common medical complaints in a remote setting.

Specialized Knowledge: Training in travel medicine, telemedicine, dental emergencies, and medical kit integration.

Environmental Medicine: Comprehensive review of cold and heat emergencies, altitude, immersion, and submersion.
