Transportation

Planning your travel is a key step in preparing for your course. Bellingham is located approximately 100 miles (160 km) north of Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SeaTac). The journey typically takes between 2 to 3 hours, but can vary significantly depending on traffic and your chosen mode of transport.

Below are our recommendations for getting from SeaTac to Bellingham:

Rental Cars

Renting a car offers the most flexibility for your travel to and from the airport, as well as for exploring the beautiful Bellingham area during your free time.

Description: All major rental car companies operate out of a dedicated rental car facility at SeaTac Airport. A free, 24/7 shuttle bus runs every few minutes from the main terminal (look for signs for "Rental Car Shuttle" at the north and south ends of the baggage claim level).

Estimated Cost: $50–$90+ per day, depending on the vehicle type, company, and how far in advance you book.

Travel Time: 2–3 hours, traffic dependent.

Booking: We recommend booking online in advance for the best rates.

For a more relaxed and scenic journey, the Amtrak train offers beautiful views of the Puget Sound. Note that this option requires an extra step to get from SeaTac Airport to the train station in Seattle.

Description: The train runs from Seattle's King Street Station to the Fairhaven Station in Bellingham. You will need to take the Link Light Rail from SeaTac Airport to the King Street Station first.

Total Estimated Cost: $35–$60+ one-way (approx. $3 for the Light Rail + $32–$57+ for the Amtrak ticket).

Total Travel Time: 3.5–4.5 hours (30-40 min Light Rail + wait time + 2-hour train ride).

How to Book:

Airport to Train Station: After arriving at SeaTac, follow signs for the Link Light Rail. Purchase a ticket and take the train northbound to the "International District/Chinatown" Station. King Street Station is a short walk from there.
