WFC Course Overview

The Hybrid Wilderness First Responder Recertification (HWFC) course provides a modern, efficient pathway for active WFRs to re-validate their scope of practice, refresh their knowledge, and sharpen their hands-on skills. By blending a flexible online review with a concentrated two-day practical assessment, the HWFC ensures that experienced professionals maintain the highest level of readiness to manage medical emergencies in remote and austere environments.

A Hybrid Model for the Active Professional

The HWFC is built to respect the time and experience of its students while rigorously upholding the standards of the WFR certification. The two-phase hybrid format is the most efficient means to achieve this.

Phase 1: Online Knowledge Refresh (2 Weeks, 10-15 Hours)

This self-guided online component allows students to efficiently review the entire WFR curriculum on their own schedule. It is designed to re-establish the theoretical foundation before the practical assessment.

Instructor-Monitored Learning: While self-paced, an instructor actively monitors student progress and is available to answer questions.

Weekly Live Connection: A mandatory one-hour weekly Zoom meeting (Monday evenings) creates a forum for group discussion and direct instructor interaction, ensuring clarity on key concepts.

Outcome: Students arrive for the in-person training with refreshed knowledge, ready to perform, not just to re-learn.

Phase 2: In-Person Skill Validation (2 Days)

These two days are dedicated to hands-on application and assessment. Running from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, the training is intensive and practical.

Interactive Learning: The format moves beyond simple repetition, incorporating group discussions, short, targeted lectures, and interactive skill labs.

Realistic Scenarios: Students are immersed in practice scenarios that challenge their clinical skills and decision-making in remote settings with limited resources.

The Ideal HWFC Candidate

This recertification pathway is specifically engineered for the experienced medical provider who is actively working or recreating in remote environments. It is not an introductory course, but a focused refresher and validation for those who already possess the WFR skill set. The ideal candidate includes:

Professional Outdoor Guides & Educators: Individuals whose careers depend on maintaining the highest standard of client care and safety.

Remote Site & Military Team Leads: Leaders responsible for the health and safety of their teams in austere, resource-limited settings.

Active WFR Holders: Any certified Wilderness First Responder who understands the importance of skill sustainment and seeks an efficient, high-quality method to recertify before their current certification expires.
